A West Virginia independent contractor agreement is a document which, when signed, becomes legally binding on an independent contractor and a client. The agreement lists the services to be performed by the contractor and the amount of compensation that will be awarded to them for the completion of said services. An independent contractor is hired temporarily and is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, permits, workers’ compensation, and unemployment compensation. This means they have a completely different employment status (according to the IRS and state employment laws) from that of an employee. Details of the contractor’s status should be outlined in the agreement, as should the time-frame in which the services must be completed and other important provisions of the business relationship.
